The other day we had pizza for dinner and as I watched Kid Tester #2 go through a gazillion paper towels, I started thinking about this product Funkins I’d been hearing a lot about. What I thought was “I really ought to look into Funkins because they’re cute, eco-friendly and I’m spending a fortune on paper products for these messy kids.” True story.
Paper Napkins are Expensive!
We are almost always running out of what Kid Tester #1 calls “makins” (napkins), and, of course, you have to pay good money for absorbent ones and if you want seasonal patterns it’s even more money. I’m finally at the point where I’m willing to do a little more laundry to save some money. That’s where Funkins comes in.
Let me stop for a moment and let you know I haven’t been paid to endorse this product. I’ve just heard about them from various people, seen write-ups in other publications and then asked to see images and press information. That was enough to sell me.
What’s a Funkin?
Funkins are reusable, double-sided, 100 percent cotton, patterned cloths that can be used as both placemat and napkin. Think about how often younger kids resort to using their sleeves or whatever they can find to wipe their hands while they eat. Then think about having a really absorbent cloth larger than the size of a piece of legal paper to hand to them and say “Use this instead.” It’s a relief, right?
Here’s What Sold Me on Funkins for My Munchkins
Add in the fact that Funkins can be purchased in different patterns– including seasonal–and I started thinking about how they could even be used as decorative accents on the table for parties or just to make the dining room or kitchen a little more colorful.
Plus on the website, amongst the various suggestions of how to use them was to wrap ice cream cones and popsicles. Brilliant!!
